|
A Live Performance in Your Living Room?
Slash Coleman brought "Glow - The Documentary" on DVD to over 200
homes between 2006 and 2008 raising the entire budget through living
room contributions. Over 2,000 participants got to experience his
thoughtful film, hear inspiring stories, and learn how his courageous tale
of coming to terms with the death of his best friend led him to his dreams.
Slash also performed a select song and monologue from his show and
led others in an intimate Q&A.
What was the Living Room Tour Work?
Once the film was finished Slash created a non-profit called the "The
Living Room Tour," and then set out to book the documentary in as
many living rooms as he could.
How did it work?
A host would invite 8 or more of your friends over. The event was free for
the host and her family. Each friend iwas then asked to make a sliding
scale donation of $10-$25.

About the Documentary
"Glow - The Documentary" became a thirty-minute, family-friendly, documentary film that chronicled
the success of Coleman's award winning one man show, "The Neon Man and Me."
Inspiration! Encouragement! Motivation!
It included interviews with family, friends, prominent Richmond journalists, artists, and religious
leaders.
Connect with Your Friends
Separated into seven themes, audience members were able to explore their own connection to such
topics as trust, love, joy, God, mission, power, and nourishment. The film also included live stage
footage from the 2006 Neon Man tour.
The music soundtrack was provided by San Francisco's,"The Rabbles,"in addition to songs by
"Vegetation Information," which feature the late, Mark "The Neon Man" Jamison, on saxophone.
About the Fundraiser?
In early 2006, PBS green lighted "The Neon Man and Me,"
as a PBS special, with one stipulation - Slash would have
to raise the money.
Finding a student filmmaker on craigslist, he and VCU
student Kate Johnson, set out to create a documentary
film about his production.
